Wasn’t so lucky on the way back (or maybe I was exactly as lucky). BART connecting San Bruno to Millbrae ran 10 minutes late and the Caltrain pulled away just as I was coming down the steps on its platform.
Ten minutes later a guy came by and the conversation went like this:
“When’s the next train to San Jose?”
“Not until 10:30.”
“I thought it would...
Wake up at 5:30. The BART I need to catch isn’t until 7:15, so I snooze a bit. Get up, get ready, shower and eat breakfast.
About to head out the door, it’s already 7:10; there’s no way to make it to the station in time. But that’s okay — that would have gotten me to the airport 75 minutes early anyway. So I’ll chill a bit and then catch the 7:35. I set...
Good Old Randomness
Pretty good Friday night. Went straight to hang with Phil and everyone after work. As I arrived they were watching the last bit of Edward Scissorhands. I hadn’t seen the movie before somehow, but it was pretty fun despite being a little dark. Afterward Chantal asked me about the whole Free Joe thing so I got to tell a short version of that story. I think Chantal and Alan were impressed a...
In a happy mood. I blame the white panda zeitgeist, the sunshine, the people I saw on the way to the train almost holding hands but not quite, the fact that I got home by myself last night but don’t quite remember it, and the fact that I’ll be meeting up with a cute girl this evening.
Maybe it’s something else — just go with it anyway :)
Well, third ex in as many months to get engaged. I guess that means I have good taste in women XD
Oh well, good for them :)
Training
I finished my 4 days of training today. I look back at how I used to think using a map iterator was clever, and how I now have some ability to create controller objects, and it’s nice. And I think it will be really cool to work in a really TDD fashion.
The process was a bit weird, though I guess mostly the format. There is actually a big room on the first floor which is equipped with...
I Had a Dream I Was in California
Woke up — still in California!
Been pretty busy and tired with work and getting up early and everything. I’m being very lazy except for the two short runs I did at the gym in the past two days. Now my calves are killing me again so I’m giving them a break. I really want to be able to spend some good time at the park this weekend without worrying about that too much.
Anyway,...
Stupid night, for no good reason.
I think it was referred to as “cycling,” but even then it happened for no good reason.
Well tomorrow is supposed to be sunny at least :P

When folks leave their team here, there’s often a “fish” email sent (as in, “so long and thanks for all the”). It’s quite cliche, but even I couldn’t leave without thanking the folks who helped me over the past six years (not to mention letting them know I’d be gone). I put everyone on BCC, partly because I didn’t want to be too gratuitous...

I guess you meant the 18th ;P
The Previous Era
Yesterday was a pretty lazy day, at least for the first half of it. My mom called to catch me up on a few things and also to get some status update from me on the whole San Francisco thing. She’s always curious about what I’m up to, so I let her know my plans for the rest of the month. It was pretty bizarre even for me to recount it all; I don’t think I’ve ever had such...
Back in 2002 during my trip to Boston, I had a quick layover in Minneapolis/St. Paul (it’s one of the few airports you can get to directly from Houghton/Hancock). I was with my friend Karen, and on the way through we started talking to a relatively cute girl who was also there for a layover. We walked together for quite a little while, and as we approached our concourse it became apparent...
2011
Without even having written through, I suspect this may turn into my longest post yet. The reason being primarily that I’ve been so silent this past year so there are a lot of stories to jot down. I don’t really care to split them up in any sort of logical way; in a lot of ways I think it’s almost one big story anyway. So here goes.
About this time last year, I was in a super...
Today I learned that the girl who most recently broke my heart (for lack of a better way to put it) has just gotten engaged. I don’t know how to describe the feeling when I heard it (a shock to the heart?); it came largely out of the blue. It’s how I used to feel hearing her name at first, or the name of her now-fiancee for a little while. Really the most surprising thing is how...

I went to the gym on Saturday for the first time in too long. Wore my VFFs and ran for about 2 miles on a slight incline. I felt bad for not doing 3 or 4, because that’s how much I used to manage without trouble back in the day. I kept telling myself I need to ease into it, but at the same time my calves weren’t hurting as much as I expected, so I felt a little wimpy.
Yesterday the...
Fun at D&D right off the heels of a great weekend, with more shows and D&D on the way this weekend. Interview and holiday (and wedding, but not mine :P) planning in the meantime.
Definitely feeling switched on.

I’m back, somewhat. For a while I thought perhaps Google+ would serve all of my needs and I wouldn’t need to bother with tumblr or facebook. The more I think about it, however, the more I realize that’s not really the place I want to put my drawn-out ramblings (maybe some other things too). For a while that was still fine, but for various reasons I find myself wanting to write...

Lately I’ve continuously been doing the opposite of what I should “probably be doing”. Within the past 3 days, I’ve turned down two amazing job opportunities, the kind of positions that would have made Desiree circa April 2011 squeal in joy at the thought of even getting an interview, let alone an actual job offer. As I sit here, broke and...

I’ve been killing a lot of time on Warp Prism today, but I’ve also been spending time here and there to get ready for this weekend. I want the place to look somewhat nice because my sister will be coming to visit, and actually she’ll arrive here tomorrow morning.
Just now I was putting the futon sheet and blankets back on, having just washed them. It occurred to me that this...

Dreamhack Summer 2011
48 contestants. I’m not sure how they’re picked; I know a few are actually pulled from a Bring Your Own Computer (BYOC) side tournament, so technically there are more than 48, but most players start in in the 6x8 group bracket.
The groups, simply labeled A through H, each contain 6 players. The groups phase consists of round-robin tournaments within each group, with each matchup...
